Jack Valentine Crackle Candle

Have you heard of Jack Valentine?

No I thought not.  Not many people have, unless of course you are a true Norfolkian because that is where Jack resided.  So let me tell you all I can about Jack and you can then decide whether to revive this Norfolk Tradition or not.

Jack Valentine was a very lovable, kind hearted chap from days of old.  On 14th February, Valentines Day itself, Jack could be glimpsed knocking on doors before running and dashing away…… but he wasn’t causing mischief, far from it.  When the door opened, the home owner would puzzle at the absence of no one standing on the doorstep.  But when they looked down they would find love tokens left for them.  Little trinkets, treats and sweets were gleefully found. Children would squeal in delight and adult hearts would swell.

Jack Valentine was spreading love and happiness to the good folk of Norfolk and today many Parents keep this tradition alive by leaving chocolates and sweets on the doorstep for their own children to find on St Valentines Day.
