Edith Cavell Wax Melt Brittle
£9.99
Edith Cavell was born in Swardeston, just south of Norwich 4/10/1865. She was executed by firing squad on 12/10/1915.
A Red Cross Nurse, she bravely treated and saved lives of soldiers, from BOTH sides, during WWI, in Brussels. She secretly worked with the resistance and helped over 200 soldiers to hide and then to escape on to Holland. The Germans arrested her, along with 6 other men. 5 were held as prisoners but Edith Cavell and another man was sentenced to death by firing squad. Her death caused international condemnation and outrage. The Kaiser, himself, concluded that any female’s, condemned to die, must be on his final say so.
After the war ended, her body was returned to England in May 1919, and following her funeral at Westminster Abbey, she was laid to rest in the grounds of Norwich Cathedral. Memorial services are held twice a year, at her graveside, on the date of her death & when she was buried.
Her bravery, as a woman and a Nurse, is remembered worldwide, with many monuments, a lake and even a mountain named in her memory & honour.
NURSE, SPY, HERIONE.
